In fact, an old Chinese proverb cautions men who are traveling far from their wives and families: "He who travels one thousand kilometers from home should not eat Goji!” Goji can markedly increase libido in BOTH MEN AND WOMEN.*
Are you wondering how a tiny red berry can have such a positive effect on your health?
To start, the goji berry is higher in antioxidants than any other known food. Antioxidants help you maintain healthy vision and reduce your risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Could your body benefit from these nutrtional benefits: • 11 essential and 22 trace dietary minerals • 18 amino acids • 6 essential vitamins • 8 polysaccharides and 6 monosaccharides• 5 unsaturated fatty acids , including the essential fatty acids, linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid beta-sitosterol and other phytosterols • 5 carotenoids , including beta-carotene and zeaxanthin (below), lutein , lycopene and cryptoxanthin , a xanthophyll numerous phenolic pigments ( phenols ) associated with antioxidant properties • Calcium . Goji Berries contain 112 mg per 100 gram serving, providing about 8-10% of the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI). • Potassium . Goji Berries contain 1,132 mg per 100 grams dried fruit, giving about 24% of the DRI. • Iron . Goji Berries have 9 mg iron per 100 grams (100% DRI).• Zinc . 2 mg per 100 grams dried fruit (18% DRI). • Selenium . 100 grams of dried Goji Berries contain 50 micrograms (91% DRI) • Riboflavin (vitamin B2). At 1.3 mg, 100 grams of dried Goji Berries provide 100% of DRI.• Vitamin C content in dried Goji Berries has a wide range (from different sources) from 29 mg per 100 grams to as high as 148 mg per 100 grams (respectively, 32% and 163% DRI). Goji Berries also contain numerous phytochemicals: • Beta-carotene : 7 mg per 100 grams dried fruit.• Zeaxanthin . Reported values for zeaxanthin content in dried Goji Berries vary considerably, from 25 mg per 100 grams to 200 mg per 100 grams . The higher values would make Goji Berries one of the richest edible plant sources known for zeaxanthin content. Up to 77% of total carotenoids present in wolfberry exist as zeaxanthin.• Polysaccharides are a major constituent of wolfberries, representing up to 31% of pulp weight.
Himalayan Goji berries are considered to be the most nutritious food source on the planet. They are far richer in antioxidants than any other comparable food source tested by ORAC labs.
We've offered you lots of examples of the goji berry's health value. But we're not the only ones who recognize how amazing the goji berry is. The goji berry was celebrated as early as the first century A.D. by Shen Nong Ben Cao in the Divine Farmer's Handbook of Natural Medicine (one of the most important texts in the history of Chinese medicine).
Other doctors and scientists have recognized the value of the goji berry, too:
"Lycium [the goji berry] tonifies jing [vital energy] and qi [breath] and strengthens the yin tao [capacity for physical exercise]."-- Tao Hong Jing, Commentary on the Divine Farmer's Handbook of Natural Medicine

There are more than forty different types of berries that are often referred to as goji berries, known in Tibet as pang jia. But Tibet Authentic's goji berry - the largest and most mature berry grown in the mountains of Tibet - is considered by ancient and modern-day doctors and scientists to be superior to all other goji berries, wolf berries and goji derivatives such as goji juice products. Only Tibet Authentic's goji berries have passed the Tibetan Medical College's rigorous quality selection criteria.
Through their Tibet Health Products Company, the Tibetan Medical College and the Tibetan government have granted Tibet Authentic exclusive license to market and distribute their goji berries and other natural products throughout the US , Canada , Australia , New Zealand , the UK , and the European Economic Community . The Government of Tibet through the Tibet Medical college has committed to sell the entire output of Wildly grown Tibetan Goji Berries to the Tibet Authentic Group.
But our collaboration with the Tibetan Medical College and the Tibetan government doesn't end there . . . we've also agreed to jointly develop revolutionary cosmetic creams and vitamins that will harness the healing, restorative properties of Tibet Authentic's goji berries.

There is a land on earth that is so pure, natural and pristine there are few words capable of describing its environment and qualities. It is truly the roof of the earth, free from pollution and toxins that are commonly found throughout the rest of the world. Its people have an absolute respect for their land and for its beauty and for the quality it holds. This land is Tibet.
LOOKING YOUNGER WITH GOJI
important subject that can never be taken lightly. The annoying sensitive feeling you get when a fresh pimple is ready to break through, can make anyone feel ugly. Though there are thousands of beauty products and facial cleansers, what you put in your body contributes to what your body secretes. Goji berries are a small fruit with a plethora of benefits, with one of the best being for the skin. The body has trillions of cells and these cells are under constant attack by free radicals. Free radicals clash with the cells in the skin, cause a chain reaction causing free radical damage, defects in the skin and can accelerate aging by destroying vital body cells faster than they can be replaced. The Goji berry is known as the “longevity fruit” and contains powerful antioxidants to help defend against premature aging and to support repairing free radical damage throughout the body. The ingredients in the fruit are met with great reception as the Goji berry contains 18 amino acids, with 8 being essential to our bodies along with many other needed vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an important key in skin care, while at the same time may protect against cardiovascular disease by defending against LDL oxidation and artery-clogging plaque formation. While the nutrition factors are great, Goji may help to stimulate the release of human growth hormone, the youth hormone. The human growth hormone is released by a gland in the body called the pituitary gland and is usually abbreviated HGH. The benefits of HGH include reduction of body fat, better sleep (when your body repairs itself), improved memory, accelerated healing, and a more youthful appearance. Because our bodies repair themselves when we sleep, our skins have a tendency of being a bit more refreshed after a good night sleep. Goji has been used in Asia for the natural treatment of insomnia dating back to historical times. In several medical study groups with elderly people, nearly all patients taking goji reported better quality of sleep. Goji battles free radicals, provide essential vitamins and minerals to the body, stimulate the youth hormone, and provide a better sleep to re-cooperate the body from the daily stresses of life. All of these factor into having that beautiful skin we all strive to have, and they are all provided within a small Goji berry. In the end, this wonderful miracle berry, has all the natural ingredients that promote great looking skin, and at the same time it comes in the convenience of a great tasting fruit. With the right mindset, the right attitude, and some Goji berries, perfect skin and a new look on life is just swallow away.
Organic certification simply do not exist in China.
Thank you for your interest in the Goji berry. There is still market confusionabout what is 'Goji' Berries and that confusion was initially caused by MLMcompanies selling goji juice products and writing product material without enough accurate information. Other companies then copied that false information and created new spins. It is now completely out of control!
Provided herein is information about the false organic status of the Chinese Lycium barbarusold as m being sold as 'Goji' and a monograph from the Tanaduk Botanical Research Institute pointing out the difference between these two lycium berries.
We can start with the question regarding Western and Chinese marketers of Lycium barbarum —the wolfberry. It is being called a "Goji" berry and false documentation is being provided thereby giving it "organic status". This is coming from China and and is being presented to the European Union (EU) regulatory agency for transfer of status. The claim is that it is being passed on to the National Organic Program (NOP) of the USDA for approval. However, so far there is no public record of USDA approval of any wolfberry or goji product. Any certified organic labeling or claim of organic status is being done illegally!
The EU is being presented fraudulent Chinese phyto certificates and agricultural documents for transfer of status to get organic certification through the European agents and then using those documents for transfer status to the NOP and USA organic markets. That document routing trail has been checked and it was discovered that Chinese manufacturers and their food brokers were providing fraudulent documents to get their product into organic markets in the UK & the U.S.
There is no organic certification for Chinese wolfberries — Lycium barbarum —the berry that is incorrectly called Goji, nor is there for any food or botanical coming out of China. Organic certification simply do not exist in China and here is why:
Pesticide Use In China
Nochlorine pesticides are conventionally used in commercial wolfberry cultivation to mitigate destruction of the delicate berries by insects. Since the early 21st century, high levels of pyrethroid insecticide residues (including fenvalerate, and cypermethrin) and fungicide residues (such as triadimenol) have been detected by the United States Food and Drug Administration on imported wolfberries and wolfberry products of Chinese origin, leading to the seizure of these products. Due to the demand for organic products in the West, some Chinese growers are beginning to experiment with integrated pest management and to explore the possibility of obtaining organic certification, something that does not yet exist in China.
Some Western resellers may state that their wolfberries are organically grown when in fact they are not. Wolfberries are now often marketed as Goji berries. The Green Certificate claimed by some wolfberry marketers to be the equivalent of the United States Department of Agriculture's "USDA Organic"seal is in actuality simply an agricultural training program for China's rural poor. China's Green Food Standard administered by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture's China Green Food Development Center, does permit pesticide and herbicide use.
Despite some claims that wolfberries sold in Europe, the United States and Canada meet organic standards, there is no public evidence for standardized organic certification of wolfberries from the regions where they are grown in China. No organic certification of Lycium berries exits. Any bags of Goji berries labeled with the ingredient Lycium barbarum with organic certified seals such as USDA certified organic are false. Often, these wolfberries are marketed as Tibetan or Himalayan Goji Berries and that is false information. Goji products that list Lycium barbarum as the ingredient are not organic and they are not authentic 'Gojis'.
The areas where Tibetan Lycium 'Goji' berries grow are so remote that no pesticides have ever been used or needed.
Antioxidants protect us. They are our bodies’ natural defences against oxidant agents that damage or destroy our tissues, initiating disease and accelerating normal aging. Our defence team of antioxidants includes enzymes, minerals and nutrients such as vitamins C and E, coenzyme Q10, alpha-lipoic acid, glutathione, taurine, carotenoids and flavonoids.
Whenever these antioxidant defences are breached, whether through mineral or nutrient deficiencies, or simply excessive oxidative challenge, oxidative reactions self-propagate and explode out of control, mutating DNA, crippling enzymes and disrupting membranes. As cells disintegrate, oxidative products leak out of cells to travel around the body and attack at other sites. As they escape antioxidant restraints, oxidative processes can amplify into inflammation. The Inflammatory Response Inflammation is the immune system’s response to tissue injury. It eliminates the offending agent, removes the debris and initiates healing. However, the immune system employs oxidative activity to do its work. If oxidation gets out of balance, inflammation can cascade out of control. Long-term, chronic inflammation is implicated in atherosclerosis (clogged arteries) and other cardiovascular diseases, various cancers, intestinal malabsorption conditions, cataracts, macular degeneration, osteoporosis, prostate hypertrophy and multiple degenerative brain diseases, including Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis and dementia. The entire spectrum of environmental pollutants (including petroleum derivatives, solvents, heavy metals), lifestyle factors (smoking, alcoholism, drug abuse) and toxic pharmaceuticals (acetaminophen, for example) are oxidant agents. The pathogens HIV-1, hepatitis viruses, mycoplasmas, fungi and the intestinal bacterium Helicobacter pylori and Giardia trigger tissue oxidation that can readily progress to inflammation. Excessive ultraviolet exposure, chronic emotional stress and food intolerances also contribute to our cumulative oxidative stress. As these diverse agents converge on our antioxidant defences, they can overwhelm our limited adaptive capacities. The result: accelerated aging and chronic ill health. A healthy antioxidant defence system strives to conserve nutritional antioxidants through metabolic recycling. However, the typical SAD (standard American diet) is clearly not supplying enough antioxidants to forestall the obvious epidemic of oxidation-related disease. Daily living in the real world places a “burn” on our antioxidant reserves. Dr. Robert Cathcart, foremost clinical authority on vitamin C, speaks of a “100-gram cold” so severe it can consume 100 grams (not milligrams) of vitamin C in a mere few days. We cannot replace this from food alone. Integrative practitioners and academic researchers agree that everyone can benefit from supplementing with antioxidants. The better the antioxidant contributions from our foods and the more supplements we take (see box), the more prepared we can be against disease. Boosting Antioxidant Reserves As health-care costs continue to soar, it’s important to seriously consider supplementing your foods with antioxidants. Take coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), for example. This is a vitamin-like antioxidant necessary for energy production; it’s proven to lower gum disease, support healthy immunity and boost muscle performance. Any insufficiency of CoQ10 can endanger the heart. Further, statin drugs commonly prescribed for lowering cholesterol can block the body’s intrinsic CoQ10 synthesis, making CoQ10 supplementation even more imperative. The carotenoids are, like vitamin E, fat-soluble antioxidants. One of them–lycopene–seems to help against prostate cancer, lowering PSA (prostate-specific antigen, a marker for prostate problems) and prostate tumour size. Lutein, another carotenoid, is found concentrated in the retina, that thin layer at the back of the eye that takes high doses of oxidative light radiation. Lutein is being researched for its effect against retinal macular degeneration, a common eye problem. Plants are a treasure trove of substances called phytochemicals, many of which are potent antioxidants. More than 4,000 known flavonoids, including oligomeric proanthocyanidins polyphenols and tannins, benefit the circulation, very likely through multiple-action mechanisms. Rosmarinic acid (RA), extracted from a strain of oregano, is also found in thyme and rosemary–all plants traditionally revered for their medicinal properties. RA appears to have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties, while its high antioxidant potency has proved useful for stabilizing vegetable oils against frying. Antioxidants are an intensively researched, large family of nutrients with profound nutritional applications. By searching out super-antioxidant foods, beverages and supplements, we keep our eyes on the prize: long life with optimal health and freedom from disease. Newly confirmed links between inflammation and degenerative disease suggest antioxidants might belong at the cutting edge of integrative health management. Best Dietary Sources of Antioxidants Foods: apples, avocados, bananas, beans, beets, berries (cranberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries), broccoli, buckwheat flour, cherries, grapefruit, grapes (especially red), kale, kelp, kiwis, lemons, olives and olive oil, oranges, papaya, pineapple, plums, prunes, raisins, red peppers, sea buckthorn and other marine algae, seeds and sprouts, spinach. Spices: cinnamon, cloves, cumin, fennel, fenugreek, garlic, ginger, onions, oregano, rosemary, tea (green, black and white), thyme, tumeric. Herbs: Standardized extracts of:bilberry, ginkgo biloba, grapeseed, hawthorn, milk thistle, pine bark. Supplemental Nutrients: alpha-lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, copper, cysteine, iron, manganese, selenium, taurine, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc. Your Body’s Defence Team Your body uses oxygen to make energy. But within your cells, oxygen also produces free radicals, substances that have unpaired electrons. Their need to pair their electrons drives these free radicals to steal single electrons from neighbouring molecules and, as a result, endanger our biochemical processes. In addition, various toxins steal pairs of electrons; these are called oxidants. Free radicals combined with other oxidants can pose such intense oxidative challenges that humans have an antioxidant defence system just to manage them. Modern living creates diverse oxidative challenges for the body. Toxic environmental and food-borne pollutants, infectious agents, excessive radiation, pharmaceutical and "recreational" drugs, even emotional stress, load on top of poor lifestyle and diet to intensify our total oxidative load and deplete our antioxidant resources. Antioxidant supplements counteract free-radical damage and replenish enzyme cofactors–nutritional insurance against disease and premature death.
Dr. Parris Kidd is an internationally recognized nutrition educator and co-author of the pioneering book Antioxidant Adapatation: Its Role in Free Pathology (1985). In his 1990 book Living with the AIDS Virus, he advocated antioxidants for HIV/AIDS management. His in-depth glutathione and brain inflammation reviews are available at altmedrev.com.
There is a newfound interest in probiotics, and food companies haven’t missed a beat. They have put these latest nutritional money-makers into flavoured sticks, special drinks, yogourts, cheese, and anything else you can put a bite on.
The word probiotic comes from the Greek: “pro” meaning promoting and “biotic” meaning life. Probiotics are dietary supplements that contain bacteria that are naturally occurring in the human intestine and are beneficial to health.
Hard Workers
These good bacteria colonize our intestinal tracts and play key roles in maintaining nutritional status:
affecting immune function
reducing cancer risk
improving cholesterol metabolism
reducing toxic load and the aging process
Some might argue that this gives probiotics more credit than they deserve, but research seems to be supporting these very claims.
To understand why probiotics have such an impact on human health, we need to realize that a well-balanced digestive system is a critical component of a healthy body. Food is broken down in the stomach, digested in the small intestine, and then absorbed into the bloodstream for utilization throughout the body.
An imbalance of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract can disrupt this process, leading to problems that span from acute but minor to serious and chronic.
Bacterial Challenges
The damage begins with impaired digestion that leads to a reduction in beneficial bacteria. This culminates in injuries to the mucosal gut barrier, with the gut lining becoming porous (leaky gut), which eventually allows large molecules to enter the circulation and cause autoimmune reactions.
Damage can also occur with the use of antibiotics. For example, some women placed on antibiotics may develop yeast infections. This is because antibiotics not only get rid of the bad bugs, but also eliminate the beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract. The result is an imbalance of micro-organisms that allows the proliferation of yeast and other not-so-good bugs.
Achieving Balance
New research is revealing that the population of good bacteria in our digestive tract is often not large enough for optimal health. The best way to ensure optimal levels of probiotics and prevent digestive problems is to take them as supplements.
Although the popularity of probiotics has increased over the last decade, there is still some confusion about what kinds of bacteria we should take and in what dosages. Although there are at least 400 different species of microflora that colonize our gut, the most important strains of healthy bacteria are Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.
Dosage
Probiotics replicate themselves rapidly when they get into the digestive tract, so counts from 1 to 10 billion are ample.
Stability
More important than label dosage is stability of the probiotic and its ability to bypass the stomach acid. A recent scientific evaluation of probiotic supplements found that most of them contained 50 percent fewer living bacteria than claimed on their labels.
Efficacy
When researchers simulated the acid stomach environment, they found that regular capsule and liquid products provided only 10 percent of the living bacteria claimed on the manufacturer’s label.
When choosing probiotics, look for stability as well as ability to bypass stomach acid in order to get to the targeted area. Getting viable probiotics to the right places will be the determining factor in their success.
Getting the Right Dosage
Many foods such as yogourt, kefir, miso, tempeh and some milk, juice, and soy either already contain friendly bacteria or have probiotics added. However, to receive a consistent and easily measurable dosage, supplements are best.
For general health promotion and maintenance, adults should choose a supplement containing two to 10 billion active cultures. Taking a probiotics supplement in addition to eating foods that contain the friendly bacteria is perfectly acceptable for healthy adults. Daily doses in the hundreds of billions have been given to adults with specific health complaints without adverse effect.
For young children and infants, consult with your health care provider for appropriate recommendations.
